Once again, the Rotary Club of Guelph will “Adopt-A-Family” for the Holiday Season, and we’re asking for donations to become the Secret Santa for families and youth in need. Our club volunteers do all the necessary organizing through the Children's Foundation, and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
In 2021, our Rotary Club of Guelph supported three families and two independent youth with much needed gift cards and specially chosen gifts. How many families and youth can we support this year?

In 2021, our club's Centennial Project was deemed by Rotary International to be one of the top 7 environmental projects of the year by Rotarians around the globe. The Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) requested an update from us to inspire fellow Rotarians. Watch it HERE: https://youtu.be/TOdzjbInEnU.
Rotary International President Jennifer Jones and former Rotary International President Holger Knaack will attend the presentation at the Rotary International Institute in Basel, Europe on November 5th, 2022. During that meeting, more than 14 nations, 60 districts, governor elects and nominees will see the exhibition of our contributions and the video update from Guelph created by past club president, Carolyn Weatherson.
Says Carolyn, "I bought a drone hoping to make the most spectacular video EVER created, and promptly crashed it into a tree. Meanwhile, here is the offering I put together this week and submitted just in time for the deadline."
Many children have fallen behind in their skills due to the lengthy school closures in the last couple of years. Brant Avenue Public School in Guelph is looking for volunteers who would be willing to come to the school and read with primary students (ages 5-9) once a week, to inspire and encourage the students.
The Brant students have not had the same opportunities as those in other areas of the Guelph community. They love to have connections with caring adults and time to read with them!
The principal at Brant is Hayley Furii, the daughter of our Rotary Club of Guelph member, Bonnie Evans. If you can help by being a reader or want more information, please reach out to Hayley. You can even ask for just a visit to see what it would involve.
What a great opportunity for us as Rotarians to offer our Service Above Self.
Our fall application “window” is now open. The current deadline to apply for funding from The Rotary Club of Guelph for worthy causes is November 15th, 2022, for grants that will be issued in the spring of 2023. The online application is on our website at RotaryGuelph.ca
Celebrating the Graduates of the Georgian Bay Drinking Water Internship On September 23, 2022, community and family members, WATER FIRST staff and other supporters joined together to celebrate the next generation of Indigenous water treatment plant operators as they graduated from the Drinking Water Internship Program supported by Rotary.
This program, a partnership with Waabnoong Bemjiwang Association of First Nations, Gezhtoojig Employment & Training Anishinabek Nation and Water First, launched in June 2021 in the Georgian Bay area of Ontario.
During the 15-month internship program, each intern accumulated 1,800 hours of on-the-job experience in water treatment plants, which is a part of the water operator in training (OIT) certification process. Interns also pursued additional water operator certification exams including water quality analyst and the entry-level course for drinking water operators, as well as environmental relevant training like GIS and water sampling which can lead to work in both drinking water treatment and the environmental water field. Following graduation, interns join the Water First Alumni Network to stay engaged, build local networks and access opportunities for ongoing professional development and peer support.
Learn more about Rotary's support for this water operator training, on our club's website.
