President Mahmud on medical leave
At its meeting April 19, the Board of Directors of The Rotary Club of Guelph approved of our President, Mahmud Hassain's requested leave until October 4 for health reasons.  The board is so thankful for his leadership, his participation in our club life, his passion for Rotary and the pure joy he brings to a room when he's in it with us - and we eagerly anticipate his return to what will be Past Presidential duties and Board service.

The Board appointed Past President Tracey Curtis as our interim President until June 30, and we appreciate her selflessness in stepping into this role with all of its responsibilities at a time that her plate is more than exceptionally full.  On behalf of all club members, please extend your personal appreciation to both of these exceptional Rotarians!
Paul Truex - Celebration of Life - ONLINE

On Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 1pm, join us online to celebrate the life of Paul Truex Sr. (May 17, 1938 - January 22, 2022).  Here is the link:
Paul was a deeply loyal and active Rotarian for 43 years after joining the Rotary Club of Guelph in 1979. He served as Club President from 1987-1988, as District 7080 Governor in 2001-2002, held various District Officer roles, and notably, was a Paul Harris Fellow many times over through his regular donations to the Rotary International Foundation.

These details barely scratch the surface of Paul's profound influence as a leader and role model within Rotary and our community. He was and will remain legendary, within the memory of our club and our city. Read more about Paul on our website, here

Tom Funk Membership Secretary Retires
Tom Funk has been Membership Secretary for twenty years and has given notice to your presidents team that he is eager to let someone else take over this job.

In his own words:  'I have really enjoyed doing it because it gave me an opportunity to get to know all our new members!"  For anyone who knows Tom, you would know the level of professionalism and excellence he has given to this role, and the fun he has had with it - and in turn, the enjoyment all Rotarians have had in such consistency and quality in the work for two decades.  Tom, thank you for your service above self!  Members, please be sure to let Tom know how much you have appreciated his work on behalf of our Rotary family for such a long time at such a high level!

Treasurer Trevor Lee to step down
At its meeting April 19, the Board of Directors accepted with regret the resignation of our Treasurer, Trevor Lee, effective June 30.

Trevor's service above self for more than two decades in this very role is a model of leadership, sacrifice and service that emulates what all of us in Rotary hope to achieve over time....consistency, reliability, and trustworthiness.  Losing Trevor will be hard for our club, and we know this was not an easy decision for him to come to either.  Please reach out to Trevor and express your appreciation!
Grant Proposals due for 2022-2023 Rotary Year
Grant allocation requests for the 22-23 Rotary Year must be submitted by April 30, 2022. Email them to Club Secretary, Kerry Johnson
This notice is for all committees of the Rotary Club of Guelph, and to interested Rotarians, and those with connections to charities in the community.
Your board of directors passed a resolution at its March meeting to seek written proposals for consideration for our 2022-23 granting year.  Committees, individual Rotarians and those with connections to charities in the community should submit your dreams for what you'd like us to address in the next Rotary year in writing to Club Secretary Kerry Johnson by April 30.

We currently do not have a figure as to how much we will be able to grant in the coming Rotary year.  A decent sense from this writer is that it could be around half of last year's granting numbers, based on a sense of fundraising results.  But we are several weeks away from knowing more information, and as such are looking for written ideas during April.  I'd personally like to see a breakdown of things that are felt to be core Rotary grant things - things we feel we ought to do year after year after year, as well as the special projects or considerations that are special to the year ahead only.

Currently we also have a review process underway where future granting processes will be clarified, but until that process completes its review, your board is looking for written ideas at this time to begin the process for this coming year.  As the chair of our 22-23 budget and grant allocation processes, I am happy to announce that I would expect your board will oversee some form of all-member consultation in the later Springtime, and I am also hopeful that your board will actively consider both a Spring and a Fall intake for grant applications from committees, Rotarians, and charities in the community as we go forward.

Could you spare a couple of hours? Here are two Rotary-related opportunities seeking volunteers.

-  Help Food4Kids close the weekend food gap for 400 children in our community
Share your vocational experience at the RYLA Living Library

The fantastic Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program for 18-30 year olds will take place virtually this year, from May 13-15, 2022 ... and it's fully booked with 35 participants! Our club is sponsoring two wonderful students to attend. The program is an intensive training program that brings together young adults to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary. On the Sunday afternoon, RYLA is providing an opportunity for RYLARIANS to meet ROTARIANS for one-on-one chats for Rotarians to share their vocational experience with these future captains of industry (which we're sure they will become).

Please register if you meet the criteria that our District 7080 RYLA program is seeking, as described below.
