On 20 March 2026, our club was updated about the work of Bracelet of Hope in Lesotho. This remarkable charity was initiated by our Rotary member and Guelph physician Dr. Anne-Marie Zadjlik some 21 years ago, using her HIV/AIDS medical expertise and her heartfelt compassion to bring relief to the people of Lesotho which had the highest global incidence of this disease. 14 years ago, our club's past president Tracey Curtis got involved alongside Anne-Marie and Tracey is currently serving her fourth term as Chair of the board of directors. Other Rotarians are also helping. These are truly ROTARY PEOPLE OF ACTION!
We heard about:
- Bracelet of Hope's three mobile clinics supported 19,000 patients in 2025, in rural areas without health services
- How each mobile clinic will soon be upgraded with on-board ultrasound equipment, thanks to Rotarian Dianne Dance
- How a fourth mobile clinic is to be added, focusing on detection and treatment of TB which is highly prevalent in Lesotho, with the onboard X-ray equipment sponsored by Rotarians Francesco and Rita Braga
- How Bracelet of Hope also supports a number of foster care homes for HIV orphans, while also addressing poverty and unemployment with income-generating activities
- How the Canadian leadership team of this charity is 100% volunteer-run, without a single paid staff member and even without a rented office space … all to ensure that every single dollar donated goes directly towards supporting the cause.
