IN THIS BULLETIN...

At last week's meeting two speakers from Brant Avenue Public School, Andrea Moyer and Katherine Gojmerac, discussed the reading buddies program that they ran with Rotary volunteers.

This initiative saw eight Rotarians from our club work with children who needed one-on-one time to improve their reading skills. Both Andrea and Katherine highlighted how the experience was about more than just reading. Each student formed strong relationships with their Rotarian and would get excited every time they came in.

Overall, this program helped to increase the confidence and self-esteem of the children involved. It also was a wonderful experience for our Rotarians. Terrie Jarvis wrote that she learned something new every time she went into the school and that each student was an excellent teacher.

Marguerite Campbell thanked our guests for the amazing work they do. A discussion about the reading buddies program followed.

If you are interested in becoming a reading buddy, Marguerite is looking for volunteers this fall. See the story below for more details.

Adopt A Family 2023 - Rotary Club of Guelph Annual Campaign!
Let's Help Some Families Enjoy the Christmas Season!

Once again, this year the Rotary Club of Guelph will “Adopt-A-Family” for the Holiday Season, and we’re asking for the usual generosity of our club members and friends so that we can become the Secret Santa for families and youth in need. Marguerite Campbell is coordinating this effort for our club, on behalf of our Children and Youth Committee.

In 2022 our Rotary Club of Guelph supported four families with eighteen (18) children, and in addition two independent youth, with much needed gift cards and specially chosen gifts. How many families and youth can we support this year?

PLEASE DONATE RIGHT NOW
Our club’s starting goal is to raise at least $5,000 within the next two weeks so that we can support at least two large families. With higher donations, we can also support several independent youth.

Our club volunteers will do all the necessary organizing on your behalf, and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.

Preferred option: Canada Helps
Donate through our Rotary Club of Guelph’s CANADA HELPS page HERE:

Tax receipts will automatically be issued by Canada Helps, and it will be easy for us to track the total amount donated.

Alternative option: Mail a cheque
Make your cheque payable to Rotary Club of Guelph (memo line: Adopt-A-Family) and mail to:
             Marguerite Campbell
             24 Verney St.
             Guelph, ON N1H 1N4
Or ... bring a cheque to an in-person Friday meeting at the ICC and hand it to Marguerite.
You will be sent a tax receipt from the Rotary Club of Guelph for donations over $20.

Thank you!
