Previous Friday, March 24th:
BIPOC Outdoor Gear Library
Our guest speaker, Dionne Daley, was a breath of fresh air! Her love of nature and outdoor activities led this professional marketing analyst (her day job) to start a voluntary passion project for BIPOC folks (Black & Indigenous People Of Colour) to borrow outdoor gear for free, for the opportunity to experience the great outdoors - often for their first time! A year after starting this project, the BIPOC Outdoor Gear Library is now a registered Not For Profit, following the model of the Guelph Tool Library. Over 500 pieces of outdoor gear have been donated and are stored at The Seed's warehouse on Huron Street. Over 150 successful experiences by gear borrowers have reassured Dionne and her 3 other board members that they are filling a real need, and they only see growth ahead. Bravo!
