Vice President Elect appointed for 2027-2028
President Marva was delighted to report that Eleni Bakopoulos has graciously agreed to serve as our 108th club president in the 2027-2028 Rotary year, following Crista Renner as our 107th club president in 2026-2027, the year after Marva's 2025-2026 term. It bodes well for our club to have leadership lined up for a few years in a row. We are truly grateful to those who are willing to step up in this way.

Royal City Masters Chess Tournament
Our Assistant District Governor, Mahmoud Hassain, is actively involved with arranging and running this major chess tournament to be hosted in Guelph from August 1-6. Details are on the chess event website here. There is growing excitement about the number of top players coming from all over the world, as well as some famous local players, including Canada's 2025 Under 8 Chess Champion, Navika Renganathan, who lives right here in Guelph and just earned top place in Canada for her age group. Allen is a former military pilot who served in many trouble zones, developing severe PTSD as a result. He was eventually able to overcome his own PTSD, and it inspired him to devote the rest of his life to help others overcome theirs. He provided insightful information and experiences about overcoming trauma and his present work in training clinicians in new, evidence-based approaches for PTSD treatment. He also spoke of his new goal to develop an app that will make trauma recovery more accessible. It was a fascinating talk and we are so grateful he shared it with us!
