Program: Our "100%" Meeting

This special meeting might not have achieved 100% attendance, but over 100 people joined online - a record for our zoom meetings. It was a warm and wonderful time together, thoroughly enjoyed by all!
 
Rick again rewarded us with a beautiful recording that you can hear by clicking on O Canada above (performed by flute and cello).
 
Our MP, Lloyd Longfield, joined us and provided our Land Acknowledgement. Mayor Cam Guthrie attended, too, and shared a few warm words.
 
Also in attendance were District Governor, Mike Lawrie, and Assistant District Governor, Darlene Carpenter. Plus several Rotarians or former Rotarians not seen in a while, including John Valeriote who shared a few special memories and accolades about past Rotarians, including Fred Black.
 
We had a chance to say hello and congratulations to Monte Hewson, and also Dan Vitale, who introduced his baby twins Amelia and Xavier to us. And a quick hello to Clay Switzer. It was simply wonderful to see so many friendly faces!
 
We also tried something new with "breakout rooms" to allow members to chat for a few minutes in smaller groups (much enjoyed, I am told), and we even launched a new way of donating to Happy Bucks and/or paying fines, through GiveSome.
 
All in all, the general feedback was that our "100% meeting" was "100% successful" !!! Thank you for helping to make it so. 
 
But wait - there's more! Our meeting included a mini AGM with our treasurer, Trevor Lee, presenting our club's financial financial statement that will soon be posted on our website for members to view. And we had a reminder to contact Sean and Nanita about volunteering and/or nominating potential directors to join our club's board on July 1, 2021.

Next week's Meeting -
Dec 11, 2020, starting at 12:15pm
 
We'll repeat our meeting about The Rotary Foundation, so rudely interrupted last week, and Dr. Anne-Marie Zadjlik will speak about managing through the coming Covid Christmas Holidays. We will also ensure there is some time left for Happy Bucks! Despite our stressful times, it's clear that our motivated and positive Rotarians can always find something to be glad about and we want to hear it.

Some reminders and links about upcoming activities through our club:
  • Virtual Paint Night - Christmas Edition, with Ben McCarl, on Sunday evening, December 13, from 6-8pm. It's free and fun. You just have to provide your own materials.  Register here. 
  • Rotary Christmas Bags. This new fundraising idea and effort to support local businesses and charities, led by Eleni Bakopoulos, is awesome. Over 330 bags have been ordered already, and we're extending the order date until mid-December. You can help by telling folks about it and sending them to our website for details: RotaryGuelph.ca.

Cyndy Forsyth and Paul Dredge provided a rapid update about IYSN - the Integrated Youth Services Network. It's amazing, and we're so proud about Rotary's role in making this happen in our community. It's getting considerable attention from other communities in Canada who want to know "How did you do this, and so fast?" You can read more on our website here. Please note:
  • The IYSN is a finalist in the Oaktree Project, where the winner will be decided by online votes. Please add your vote here. Voting closes at 5pm on Monday, December 7, and only takes a few seconds.

A NEW WAY OF PAYING HAPPY BUCKS AND FINES!
 
We've found a SUPER way of paying Happy Bucks and/or good-natured 'fines' from our Sergeant-At-Arms.
 
We've set up Rotary Club of Guelph donation sites on GIVESOME, a handy app that encourages small donations of $2, $5 or $10. Please open and bookmark this site:  
 
Here you will find options to contribute to one (or more) of four programs important to our club:
  • Polio Plus
  • Food4Kids Guelph Covid Relief
  • Learning equipment for Indigenous youth
  • Integrated Youth Services Network
We were delighted to have these options introduced and explained to us by none other than Sue Wigston, the CEO of the GiveSome Foundation. (Did you know that this successful program was started right here in Guelph?)
