There was a large turnout to our April 25th club meeting for our special "Earth Week" program arranged by our wonderful Environment Committee. The program was a casual, on-stage chat between our MPP (and keen Rotary supporter) Mike Schreiner and our former mayor, Karen Farbridge, followed by Q&A with the audience. Karen's ongoing mission and business is to help communities along their path to net zero, driven by data, stakeholder engagement, strategy development, policy integration and governance. Her facts and figures about energy (and energy loss) in cities was fascinating. You can read some of her case studies here.
Our Environment Committee did us proud by also arranging for selected environmental movies to be shown at The Bookshelf Cinema earlier in the week, and for volunteers to support the annual tree planting at the new Hanlon Creek Forest on Laird Road. Although the Saturday planting day was very chilly and windy, it is a "rain or shine" event and over 800 saplings were planted! Another successful "Earth Week".
