It should only take 10-15 minutes, and there are no wrong answers. The results will guide us in prioritizing what aspects to focus on for a stronger club. It can be completed and/or delivered at the next couple of Friday meetings, or completed online at this link or through this QR Code. ________
SPEAKER - RICHARD WORZEL, FUTURIST:  "BRACE FOR IMPACT"

www.futuresearch.com
futurist@futuresearch.com

Marva Wisdom was delighted to introduce our speaker, Richard Worzel, a highly experienced "Futurist" with a background in computer science, economics and world trade to share insights on preparing for an uncertain future.

Richard began by emphasizing that the future is unpredictable, that our best bet is to prepare for uncertainties, and that a Futurist is a PLANNER, not a PROPHET.

He gave examples of how change often comes abruptly, as with many natural disasters. "Everything will be fine ... until it suddenly isn't."

He went on to highlight three significant changes that will impact individuals, businesses, and communities. He urged attendees to think critically about these prevailing issues, and to make contingency plans for adaptation and mitigation.

  • Climate Change Impacts
  • US Economic Policy Risks
  • The Housing and Homelessness Crisis
Richard provided many examples backed by data, and provided a summary sheet for our future reference. With Richard's permission, it can be viewed and downloaded from our website HERE

In closing, Richard encouraged Rotary to consider ways in which we might make a positive difference to Housing and Homelessness, here in Guelph and elsewhere.

Helmuth thanked Richard for his informative and inspiring address, and presented him with a certificate of thanks, indicating that in Richard's honour, our club will sponsor 50 children to be inoculated against polio.
